Programs

Cliff Nelson offers a wide variety of programs and activities for all ages. Classes are taught throughout the day and evenings. Programs include: A variety of aerobic and weight room memberships for ages 14 and up.

  • Mature adult programs in fitness, health and wellness.
  • Teen programs including fitness, camps, arts and culture.
  • Day camp program offering themed activities including sports, crafts and special activities for children ages 5-12 (available during the summer, winter and Spring Break holidays).
  • Preschool classes in martial arts, gymnastics, t-ball, basketball, soccer, dance and art.
  • Elementary classes in martial arts, cheerleading, art, basketball, soccer, dance, football, boxing, gymnastics and music.
  • Adult classes in aerobics, weight training, arts and culture.
  • Educational preschool program offering a fun and learning environment for children ages 3-5.

Special Events

  • January—Spring Open House  Receive a 10% discount on most classes and camps during our Spring Open House. 

  • February—My Little Sweetie Charm Class We’ll help you get ready for the BIG night with Dad!  Join us for a unique charm class to get ready for the Daddy Daughter Dance or just because!  We will learn proper etiquette including table manners, polite conversations, acting lady-like in a dress, tasteful make-up for young ladies, nail care and even a little bit of dancing. 

  • April—Mom & Son Lock-In Calling all moms and their sons!  Join us for a fun-filled sleepover at Cliff Nelson Rec Center!  Just bring your sleeping bag, cot, blow-up mattress and anything else you need to be comfy for the night.  The sleepover will include dinner, friendly mom and son competitions, crafts, activities and more.  So leave the chores to dad and the rest of the family at home while you enjoy some quality time with the most important “man” in your life. 

  • May—Dance Showcase Cliff Nelson and Dottie Lynn Recreation Centers have partnered to offer a dance recital program.  The recital will be held at the Bob Duncan Center.  Dancers will showcase their dances to their family and friends that evening.  The program will be followed by a light refreshment reception to celebrate a job well done.

  • May—Preschool Graduation We celebrate our promoting preschooler with a program and graduation.  The graduation is followed by a reception for all attendees.

  • May-Summer Open House Receive a 10% discount on most classes and camps during our summer Open House. 
  • July-Family Fun Night—Ice Cream Social This is an awesome opportunity for our campers and their families to enjoy the evening with their favorite camp counselors.  The event is free and open to all current camp participants and their families. 

  • August-Family Fun Night—Hot Dog Dinner This is an awesome opportunity for our campers and their families to enjoy the evening with the favorite camp counselors.  The event is free and open to all current camp participants and their families.

  • August-Fall Open House Receive a 10% discount on most classes and camps during our fall Open House.

  • December-Fitness Pot-Luck Luncheon This annual luncheon is a great opportunity for all fitness participants, past, present and future, to enjoy a great lunch and socialization with fellow participants.  We even play a few fun games of bingo with great prizes.

  • December-Breakfast with Santa He's making a list, and checking it twice.  He's going to find out who's naughty and nice.  Santa Claus is coming to town! And he's stopping by Cliff Nelson Recreation Center to enjoy breakfast and other holiday activities with all our guests.  Join us for a great holiday event for the whole family.  Children will enjoy making holiday crafts and visiting with someone special, too.

 

Preschool Classes 

  • Ballet & Tap-Preschool (3-5 year olds) Offer both Recital and Non-recital classes. Learn beginning classical ballet and tap.  Class will devote equal time to both styles of dance. 

  • Tiny Kids Self Defense (3-5 year olds) Preschoolers will learn basic kicks, escaping techniques and rolling.  This class helps teach children about stranger awareness. 

  • Shake, Rattle & Grow (1-3 year olds) Bring your toddler to this fast movin’, music playin’, toe tappin’ class.  Class will concentrate on movement, rhythm and interaction with you and other participants in the class.  We will involve colors, bubbles, musical instruments and upbeat music that will get everyone movin’ and groovin’. 

  • Ooey-Gooey Art (1-3) Paint, sculpt, draw and mold the greatest art ever! 

  • Cooking up a Story (1-3) Listen to your favorite children’s stories!  We will make a delicious treat and fun craft that is taken from each story. 

  • Little Explorers (1-3) Come explore the great outdoors with your toddler!  We will visit the pond, search for creepy crawlers and make friends while getting dirty outside. 

  • Preschool Playhouse (3 & 4-5) During this year-round program, we will carry out different themes using crafts, songs, stories, games and other fun activities.  We will also introduce colors, shapes, numbers, letters and much more. 

  • Tumbling Tots (3-5) Preschoolers will learn beginning tumbling and beam skills.  These classes help to enhance social interaction, listening skills and coordination. 

  • SoccerTots (18 months-5 years) This program helps kids learn the basics of soccer through a variety of games. 

  • LilSluggers (18 months-5 years) The program helps kids learn the basics of baseball through a variety of games. 

Elementary Classes 

    • Drawing and Painting (6-12) Participants should be encouraged to draw and to develop color awareness.  Opportunities will be provided to allow children to draw from real objects with lots of guidance. 

    • Tae Kwon Do (6 & up) After stretching and conditioning, students will learn kicking, punching, basic falls and discipline. 

    • Tae Kwon Do Sparring (6 & up) Sparring is an excellent complement to our Tae Kwon Do program.  Students will receive tips for competition and self-defense, as well as additional experience sparring with others. 

    • Guitar (8 & up) Learn basic guitar chords, strumming techniques, tuning and care of the guitar.  Emphasis is on the guitar as accompaniment and will include simple guitar solos. 

    • Keyboarding (6-15) This class is taught using an electric keyboard.  Learn beginning skills; notes and their time values, fingering, simple songs, etc. 

    • Cheerleading (6-12) Cheerleading is great fun and exercise.  This class is designed to teach fundamentals of cheerleading including: jumps, cheers, chants basic tumbling and routines.

    • Gymnastics (6-12) Gymnastics is a great class for developing balance, coordination, flexibility, muscular endurance and strength.  This is a beginning class where participants will learn basic gymnastic skills.

    • Volleyball (8-14) Bump, Set, Spike!  You will learn how to serve the ball, proper footwork and how to bump, set and spike the volleyball. 

    • SoccerTots (5-6) 

    • This program helps kids learn the basics of soccer through a variety of games. 
    • LilSluggers (5-10) This program helps kids learn the basics of baseball through a variety of games.

    • Hip Hop Dance Class (8-17) Come have a great time learning Hip Hop dance!  This class will teach you all the latest and hottest dance steps.  It’s a great workout too! 

    • Jazz Elementary (6-12) If you’re looking for the class that really moves, here it is!  Students will be taught jazz squares, leaps, attitudes and combination steps.

 

 

Teen Classes
