2017 Keith Donoff Men's Challenge Cup at ATC

Friday, 30 June 2017 00:00

The best amateur men's players from three of the United States Tennis Association's (USTA) sections will be at Arlington Tennis Center, June 30 through July 2, to compete for the coveted Championship title in the 2017 Keith Donoff Men's Challenge Cup.

This tournament will offer men's singles and doubles team events in the 55s, 60s, 65s and 70s age divisions. Players from USTA Southern (Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee), the current reigning champions from 2016 will field a team. USTA Midwest (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin) will field a second team, and USTA TEXAS, will field two teams.

All total, approximately 112 players will travel to Arlington for three days of intense competition, bringing their guests along to watch what will surely be outstanding tennis entertainment.

The Keith Donoff Challenge Cup was originally the USTA Men's Intersectional Team Tournament, which Arlington Tennis Center and staff hosted in 2008 and 2010. The USTA Men's Intersectional tournament eventually evolved into the 'Donoff' Cup, named after Keith Donoff, a top 10 player who brought the national spotlight to the Midwest Section, specifically with the Intersectional tournaments. Keith passed away in 2008, and after the USTA Men's Intersectional Team Tournament evolved into a different format, the new event was named in his honor.

The Keith Donoff Challenge Cup rotates locations every year between the participating sections. Arlington Tennis Center last hosted it in 2013, and because of the national and state reputation the facility and staff have for running major events, the tournament organizers tapped Manager, Sheryl Osborn, to serve as the tournament director once again.

Players will arrive Thursday, June 29 for check in and meetings. Match play begins Friday morning, and will continue through Sunday early afternoon. ATC will also have a fully-loaded 2017 Toyota Rav4 on display, courtesy of Vandergriff Toyota.

The event is free of charge to all spectators, so come on out this weekend and watch some fantastic tennis matches!
